Project summary
The rapid expansion of renewable energy production is increasingly creating a mismatch between energy generation and consumption, since energy supply cannot always be controlled or aligned with demand.
The SmartCORE project helps reduce this imbalance by introducing innovative energy management solutions for energy communities across North-West Europe. These solutions make it easier to use renewable energy more efficiently through strategies like energy sharing, while also supporting the grid with services such as balancing and congestion management.
Pilot projects
Belgium
The Belgian pilot project focuses on increasing the resilience of the Belgian electricity grid through balancing and flexibility, contributing to strengthening the country’s energy independence.
France
The French pilot project focuses on raising awareness and encouraging participation to promote sustainable consumption patterns, integrating citizens’ perspectives through social, technical, and economic approaches.
Ireland
Focusing on awareness and participation, the Irish pilot project will explore social and economic incentives to encourage early citizen engagement in the energy system.
Luxembourg
Focusing on
increasing independence from the external energy market, the
Luxembourg pilot project tests strategies to enhance local energy
self-consumption.
The Netherlands
With an overall focus on strengthening energy resilience, the Dutch pilot project addresses both national-level balancing strategies and local congestion challenges.
