Netherlands

Energy Cooperative Loenen, Energy Cooperative Endona, Groendus, and Translyse

With an overarching focus on strengthening energy resilience, the Dutch pilot project addresses both national-level balancing strategies and local congestion challenges. It will involve 250 energy community members, exploring territorial aspects of energy management solutions.

The pilot will focus on solar curtailment combined with investment in a MW-class battery, testing, and sharing lessons learned on strengthening resilience through improved self-consumption, energy sharing, grid balancing, and congestion management. In addition to households, the pilot will also test SMEs and industrial flexible assets.

For Dutch energy cooperatives, local energy management - like SmartCORE - is not just a solution, it’s a game-changer. It revitalizes struggling business models for renewable energy and unlocks the energy transition where it’s most stuck: in the grid-congested neighbourhoods where local infrastructures fall short of keeping up.
